: [HỎI ĐÁP BÁC SĨ]: Which Implant Brands Does Dr. Care Use, and Will Dentists Abroad Recognize Them?

Bài viết được cố vấn chuyên môn bởi

Michael Chen, 52, has lived in Ho Chi Minh City for five years and is considering full-arch treatment for extensive lower-tooth loss. Dr. Care currently offers internationally established systems including Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Neodent, as well as JDentalCare. For an expat, choosing a clinically appropriate system with broad international prosthetic support—and keeping a complete implant passport—is especially important if future maintenance or repairs may be performed in another country.

Michael Chen, 52 – Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam (Expat)

Condition: Long-term expat who has lived in Ho Chi Minh City for five years and is missing most of his lower teeth. Michael is considering full-arch implant treatment but wants to make sure the implant system can still be identified and serviced if he eventually moves home or sees another dentist abroad.

“I've been living in Ho Chi Minh City for five years and I'm missing most of my lower teeth. What implant brand do you use, and is it one my dentist back home would recognize if I ever need follow-up care?”

Hello Michael. This is a very sensible question for an expat, because the long-term value of an implant system is not determined only by how well the implant integrates with your bone today. You should also consider whether the implant and its prosthetic components can be identified, maintained and replaced many years later if you move to another country.

At Dr. Care, the current full-arch treatment options include Neodent, JDentalCare, Straumann SLA, Straumann SLActive and Nobel Active. Among these systems, Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Neodent have particularly extensive international professional networks and active product support in major dental markets.

For example, Straumann states that its products are available in more than 100 countries. Neodent, which is part of the Straumann Group, reports availability in more than 80 countries and currently has dedicated professional distribution and support in the United States. Nobel Biocare likewise maintains country-specific professional support, implant systems, prosthetic components and product catalogues across major international markets.

That makes these systems relatively straightforward choices to consider for someone like you who may receive treatment in Vietnam but potentially need maintenance elsewhere in the future.

However, I would make one important distinction: a dentist recognizing the brand is not exactly the same as that dentist being able to repair every component immediately.

Dental implant systems are not universally interchangeable.

A Straumann implant, for example, uses specific prosthetic connections, screws, abutments and instruments. Nobel Active has its own restorative platform. Neodent Grand Morse uses another connection system. Even within one manufacturer, different implant generations or prosthetic platforms may require different components.

So when planning full-arch dental implant treatment, the question should not simply be “Will my dentist know the brand?”

The better question is: “Will another implant dentist be able to identify exactly what was placed and obtain the correct restorative components if something needs servicing?”

Implant system currently listed for full-arch treatment at Dr. CareInternational follow-up consideration
Straumann SLA / Straumann SLActiveStraumann has a large international professional network and states that its products are available in more than 100 countries. This generally makes identification of the system, access to technical information and sourcing original restorative components easier internationally.
Nobel ActiveNobel Biocare is an internationally established implant manufacturer with dedicated professional platforms and restorative components in multiple markets. NobelActive is also actively supported in countries such as the United States and Canada.
NeodentNeodent is a Straumann Group brand available in more than 80 countries. Its implant and prosthetic systems are currently supported through dedicated professional channels in the United States and other international markets.
JDentalCareJDentalCare is an Italian implant manufacturer with distributors across five continents. It can therefore be followed internationally, although the exact ease of obtaining components will depend more on where you eventually live and whether local clinicians routinely use that particular system.

If international serviceability is one of your highest priorities, I would therefore discuss Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Neodent particularly carefully with you.

This is not because another brand is automatically inferior.

It is because a widely distributed implant platform can reduce logistical difficulty if, ten or fifteen years from now, you need a replacement screw, a new multi-unit abutment component or a new prosthetic bridge in another country.

For an expat, that practical issue has genuine value.

At the same time, I would not select Straumann or Nobel merely because the name is more familiar internationally if the implant design is not the best match for your bone and prosthetic plan.

The implant system still has to be selected according to your anatomy, available bone, primary stability requirements, prosthetic design and long-term maintenance needs.

You mentioned that you are missing most of your lower teeth. Before discussing brand, I would first examine whether the remaining teeth truly have a poor prognosis.

If one or more natural teeth can still be maintained predictably, I would not remove them simply to make the arch easier to standardize.

If your remaining lower dentition is genuinely terminal, then All-on-4, All-on-6 or another fixed complete-arch configuration can be planned.

The choice between four and six implants is also not a brand decision.

The final prosthesis should determine where the implants need to be placed, and the available mandibular bone, the inferior alveolar nerve, mental foramina, arch form and expected loading all have to be evaluated with CBCT.

If four implants can be distributed appropriately and provide the foundation required for the final prosthesis, an All-on-4 configuration may be reasonable. If six favorable implant positions exist and the additional implants provide meaningful prosthetic support, All-on-6 may be preferable.

I would not tell you that six implants are automatically better simply because you are relatively young and may use the restoration for many years.

Long-term success depends on the whole system rather than the implant count alone.

What determines long-term serviceability? Why it matters if you eventually move abroad
Exact implant manufacturerAllows another clinician to identify the correct restorative ecosystem.
Exact implant model and connectionTwo implants from the same manufacturer may still use different prosthetic connections and therefore different components.
Implant diameter and lengthImportant for identifying the implant and interpreting future radiographs or surgical records.
Multi-unit abutment type, angle and heightIn a full-arch restoration, the bridge commonly interfaces with multi-unit abutments rather than directly with the implant fixture. This information is critical for future prosthetic work.
Prosthetic screw and driver informationIf a screw loosens or the bridge has to be removed, the future dentist needs the appropriate driver and compatible replacement components.
Laboratory and prosthetic design recordsUseful if the bridge later needs repair, duplication or complete replacement while the implants themselves remain healthy.
Baseline radiographsAllow another dentist to compare future bone levels with the condition when treatment was completed.

This is why I strongly recommend that international and expat patients keep what is often called an implant passport.

The implant passport should contain more information than simply “Straumann implants” or “Nobel implants.”

Ideally, you should leave treatment with the exact manufacturer and implant line, diameter and length of every fixture, position of each implant, lot or reference information where available, the type of multi-unit abutments, restorative connection details and the relevant prosthetic records.

If you receive four or six implants, each implant should be documented individually.

For example, a useful record would identify that a particular implant is located in a specific mandibular position, belongs to a specific manufacturer's implant family and is connected to a particular multi-unit abutment.

That is far more useful to a future dentist than simply handing over an X-ray and saying, “These were done in Vietnam.”

Dr. Care currently also provides manufacturer warranty documentation for the implant systems used in treatment. For international follow-up, I would keep both the original implant documentation and a digital copy.

However, warranty and clinical servicing should not be confused.

A manufacturer warranty may apply to specific components under its terms, but it does not necessarily mean that every dental clinic in every country is required to treat or replace the prosthesis without charge.

Your future dentist will still make an independent clinical diagnosis and may charge for examination, imaging, laboratory work or treatment.

The main advantage of an established international system is that identifying the product and obtaining compatible original components tends to be more straightforward.

Another important distinction is between maintenance of the implants and maintenance of the full-arch prosthesis.

Your titanium implants may remain integrated and healthy for many years, while the bridge above them may eventually need maintenance.

A screw can loosen. A prosthetic tooth can chip. The biting surfaces can wear. A bar or bridge may need repair or replacement after many years of function.

That does not necessarily mean the implants themselves have failed.

For this reason, the prosthetic design should be created with future servicing in mind.

In a screw-retained full-arch restoration, the bridge can be removed by a clinician when professional maintenance or repair is necessary. For someone who may live in more than one country during the lifetime of the restoration, retrievability is particularly valuable.

I would therefore consider the “service ecosystem” of the restoration almost as important as the implant brand itself.

Future situationCould a dentist abroad help?
Routine examination and professional cleaningUsually yes. An implant-trained dentist or hygienist does not normally need to have placed the original implants to assess peri-implant health and provide appropriate maintenance.
Routine radiographic follow-upUsually yes, especially if you provide baseline radiographs and implant records for comparison.
Loose prosthetic screwOften manageable, but the clinician needs to know the implant/prosthetic system and have the correct driver, screw and torque information.
Replacement of a multi-unit abutment componentRequires correct identification of the manufacturer, restorative platform and component specifications.
Fractured or worn full-arch bridgeThe implants may still be completely healthy, but the dentist and laboratory will need adequate prosthetic records and compatible components to repair or remake the bridge.
Peri-implantitis or significant bone lossRequires clinical treatment rather than simply replacing a component. An implant specialist may be more appropriate depending on severity.

The phrase “my dentist back home would recognize it” therefore has two levels.

At the first level, a widely used system such as Straumann, Nobel Biocare or Neodent is likely to be familiar to many implant dentists internationally.

At the second level, whether a particular dentist personally stocks the necessary driver, screw or abutment for your exact implant system cannot be guaranteed.

A general dentist who rarely works with implants may recognize the Straumann name but still refer you to a prosthodontist or implant dentist for a complex full-arch repair.

That would be completely normal.

For your situation, I would therefore not promise that “any dentist anywhere can fix it.”

I would say that choosing a widely supported system and maintaining detailed documentation gives another qualified implant dentist a much better starting point if care has to be transferred.

Among the systems currently available for full-arch treatment at Dr. Care, Straumann illustrates this particularly well. The manufacturer states that the Straumann brand is available in more than 100 countries and maintains professional product, prosthetic and technical-support resources internationally.

Nobel Biocare likewise maintains dedicated implant and prosthetic support in major markets, including active NobelActive product lines and professional support in North America.

Neodent is part of the Straumann Group, is available in more than 80 countries and currently has a dedicated U.S. professional operation that supplies implant lines, original prosthetics and technical support.

JDentalCare also has an international distributor network across five continents, so it should not be described as a purely local Vietnamese system. However, if the central concern is maximizing the probability that a future implant specialist already works routinely with the same platform, I would discuss the larger global systems carefully with you.

None of that means that the most internationally distributed brand is automatically the medically best choice for your lower jaw.

For example, your bone may provide excellent conditions for Neodent, Straumann or Nobel Active. The final selection should consider the surgical and prosthetic advantages of the system as well as long-term availability.

I would not recommend paying more solely for the logo on the implant.

At the same time, for an expat patient, international component support is a legitimate factor in the treatment decision and should not be dismissed as marketing.

According to Dr. Care's current dental implant price list, the full-arch Implant component is currently listed as follows:

Implant systemAll-on-4 / archAll-on-6 / arch
NeodentVND 109,000,000VND 158,000,000
JDentalCareVND 129,000,000VND 188,000,000
Straumann SLAVND 129,000,000VND 188,000,000
Straumann SLActiveVND 149,000,000VND 218,000,000
Nobel ActiveVND 149,000,000VND 218,000,000

These are the Implant-component prices for one arch and currently include VAT. The definitive fixed full-arch prosthesis is priced separately according to the restorative material and bar design.

For All-on-4, the current definitive prosthetic options range from VND 30,000,000 to VND 74,000,000 per arch. For All-on-6, they range from VND 36,000,000 to VND 79,000,000 per arch.

Therefore, the currently listed combined reference range is approximately VND 139,000,000–223,000,000 per arch for All-on-4 and approximately VND 194,000,000–297,000,000 per arch for All-on-6, before individually required procedures such as bone grafting.

Cost should not be interpreted as a ranking in which the highest-priced Implant is automatically the best.

For you, I would compare at least four things: whether the system is appropriate for the available mandibular bone, whether its prosthetic platform works well with the planned full-arch design, whether it has good long-term component availability, and whether you are comfortable with the cost.

If all clinical factors were otherwise equivalent and you told me that international servicing was one of your highest priorities, that could reasonably influence the final choice.

Because you live in Ho Chi Minh City now, you also have an advantage over a dental tourist.

You can attend postoperative reviews and long-term maintenance appointments locally rather than trying to compress every check into an international trip.

That matters because even the most internationally recognized Implant should still be reviewed periodically.

A full-arch bridge does not develop tooth decay, but plaque can accumulate around the Implant–abutment interfaces and the tissues can develop peri-implant inflammation.

The bridge, screws and restorative materials also remain mechanical components that experience years of chewing forces.

Routine maintenance allows us to detect small changes before they become larger problems.

Your treatment would therefore begin with Dr. Care's standard clinical dental implant protocol: examination, medical review, CBCT Cone Beam 3D assessment, evaluation of the remaining teeth and prosthetically driven planning before an Implant brand or number is finalized.

If precise control of implant direction and depth is useful for your anatomy, DCARER dynamic navigation may also be considered to assist the surgeon in following the three-dimensional plan.

However, navigation does not make one implant brand more internationally serviceable than another. That depends on the implant and restorative ecosystem itself.

Once your treatment is completed, I would recommend keeping both printed and digital copies of your implant records.

Your long-term implant record should ideally containWhy you should keep it
Implant manufacturer and exact systemPrevents another dentist from having to identify an unknown implant from radiographs alone.
Implant position, diameter and lengthProvides a complete map of the fixtures placed in your jaw.
Reference/lot documentation and manufacturer warranty information when suppliedProvides traceability of the implanted components.
Multi-unit abutment type, angle and heightEspecially important for full-arch prosthetic maintenance.
Prosthetic screw and connection informationAllows a future clinician to identify the correct components and instruments more efficiently.
Final panoramic radiograph or appropriate baseline imagesProvides a reference for future evaluation of bone levels.
Digital prosthetic records where availableCan be valuable if the full-arch bridge eventually has to be repaired or remade.

If you eventually move back home, I would give those records to your new implant dentist at the first maintenance appointment rather than waiting until something breaks.

That allows the clinician to identify the system in advance and determine whether the appropriate restorative tools and components are available locally.

If they do not routinely work with that system, they can refer you to a clinician who does.

This is a much better scenario than arriving with a loose bridge ten years later and no information about what was placed.

My practical advice for you, Michael, is therefore not to ask only, “Which Implant is strongest?”

Ask which system is clinically appropriate for your lower jaw, has a prosthetic design that can be maintained over decades, and gives you reasonable access to components if your life eventually takes you to another country.

At Dr. Care, Straumann, Nobel Active, Neodent and JDentalCare are currently listed options for full-arch treatment. If international recognition and component availability are major priorities, Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Neodent deserve particular consideration because each currently has a substantial international professional infrastructure.

But I would make the final recommendation only after seeing your CBCT and the condition of the remaining lower teeth.

If your bone and prosthetic requirements make several systems equally suitable, international support can then become a useful tie-breaker.

If one system clearly fits the surgical and prosthetic requirements better, I would prioritize that clinical advantage and make sure you leave with comprehensive documentation so future care can still be transferred.

This consultation is general guidance only because I have not yet examined your remaining teeth, mandibular bone volume, nerve anatomy, occlusion or prosthetic space. Those findings determine whether you need All-on-4, All-on-6 or another approach and which Implant system is most appropriate for your specific lower arch.
