[HỎI ĐÁP BÁC SĨ]: Why Is All-on-4 So Much Less Expensive in Vietnam Than in Sydney, and Does Lower Cost Mean Lower Quality?

Bài viết được cố vấn chuyên môn bởi

James Wilson, 60, has been quoted AUD 30,000 for an upper All-on-4 restoration in Sydney and is comparing that with treatment in Vietnam. Dr. Care's current complete All-on-4 reference range is approximately VND 139–223 million per arch, depending on the implant system, final prosthetic material and bar design. The lower price does not automatically mean lower-quality implants: Dr. Care currently offers internationally established systems including Straumann, Nobel Active and Neodent, which also have professional support in Australia. A proper comparison should examine the exact implant model, multi-unit components, temporary teeth, final bridge, bar, additional surgery, warranty and follow-up—not price alone.

James Wilson, 60 – Australia

Condition: Comparing an AUD 30,000 quotation from a Sydney dentist for an upper All-on-4 restoration with full-arch Implant treatment in Vietnam.

“My dentist in Sydney quoted me AUD 30,000 for All-on-4 on my upper jaw. Why is the price so much lower in Vietnam, and does that mean the materials or implant brand are lower quality?”

Hello James. A substantially lower All-on-4 price in Vietnam does not automatically mean that the Implant fixtures or restorative materials are lower quality.

At the same time, I would not tell you that two treatments are equivalent simply because both are called “All-on-4.”

All-on-4 describes a treatment concept in which four strategically positioned implants support a fixed complete-arch prosthesis. It does not specify the Implant manufacturer, multi-unit abutments, provisional restoration, final bridge material, supporting bar, digital workflow, laboratory process, warranty or the experience of the treating team.

Those details are what you need to compare.

At Dr. Care, the current All-on-4 Implant options include Neodent, JDentalCare, Straumann SLA, Straumann SLActive and Nobel Active. Straumann, Nobel Biocare and Neodent are not Vietnam-only or lower-tier local brands. They have established professional product and restorative support in Australia as well.

For example, Straumann operates directly in Australia and provides its Implant and prosthetic systems to Australian clinicians. Nobel Biocare has an Australian professional platform and currently markets NobelActive in Australia. Neodent, a Straumann Group brand, also has an Australian professional operation with Implant systems, original prosthetics, CAD/CAM libraries, technical documents and customer support.

Therefore, if the Dr. Care treatment plan uses Straumann, Nobel Active or Neodent, the fact that the clinical fee is lower than your Sydney quotation should not be interpreted as evidence that the Implant itself is an unknown or inherently inferior product.

What is being compared? What you should verify
Implant brandExact manufacturer and Implant line—not simply “premium Swiss Implant” or “European Implant.”
Restorative componentsWhether original or appropriately specified multi-unit abutments, screws and prosthetic components are being used.
Temporary teethWhether a provisional fixed arch is included and under what clinical conditions it can be immediately loaded.
Definitive teethResin or ceramic, number of teeth, bar design and whether the published price includes the definitive restoration at all.
Supporting frameworkCast bar versus CAD/CAM bar and how the framework is verified for fit.
Surgical additionsWhether extractions, bone grafting, sinus augmentation or navigation are included or billed separately.
AftercareScheduled postoperative reviews, bite adjustments, long-term maintenance and the exact warranty conditions.

The second point is why the same general treatment category can cost much less in Vietnam.

The Implant fixture is only one part of the total fee.

A full-arch quotation also reflects the professional fees of the surgeon and restorative dentist, clinical staffing, laboratory production, premises and facility costs, administrative overhead, local market pricing and the way the clinic organizes treatment.

Those costs differ substantially between countries.

Therefore, it is entirely possible for two clinics to use an internationally recognized Implant system but charge very different total treatment fees.

The price difference by itself does not prove that the lower-priced treatment is inferior. Equally, a high price by itself does not prove that every component or every clinical step is superior.

The correct comparison is clinical specification against clinical specification.

For your upper jaw, Dr. Care's current dental implant price list lists the Implant component of All-on-4 as follows:

Implant systemCurrent All-on-4 Implant component / arch
NeodentVND 109,000,000
JDentalCareVND 129,000,000
Straumann SLAVND 129,000,000
Straumann SLActiveVND 149,000,000
Nobel ActiveVND 149,000,000

These published All-on-4 Implant-component prices currently include 10% VAT, but they do not include the definitive fixed full-arch prosthesis.

The definitive restoration is a separate component of the treatment cost.

Definitive All-on-4 prosthesisCurrent price / arch
Justy fixed resin teeth on a cast barVND 30,000,000
Justy fixed resin teeth on a CAD/CAM barVND 44,000,000
Fixed ceramic restoration on a cast barVND 54,000,000
Fixed ceramic restoration on a CAD/CAM barVND 74,000,000

When the Implant component and the definitive prosthesis are combined, Dr. Care's current published reference range for one completed All-on-4 arch is approximately VND 139,000,000–223,000,000.

At the current exchange rate at the time of this consultation, that is approximately AUD 7,500–12,000 per arch as a currency reference.

The Australian-dollar figure will fluctuate with the exchange rate and payment method, so the treatment should always be quoted and confirmed in Vietnamese Dong.

Your AUD 30,000 Sydney quotation is therefore substantially higher than the current Dr. Care published range for one All-on-4 arch.

But before concluding that one clinic is “three times cheaper,” I would ask to see exactly what your Sydney dentist has included.

Your Australian quotation may contain services or restorative specifications that are different from the Dr. Care configuration you are comparing.

Ask your Sydney clinicThen compare with Dr. Care
Which exact Implant manufacturer and model are included?Neodent, JDentalCare, Straumann SLA/SLActive and Nobel Active are currently listed options at Dr. Care.
Are four original multi-unit abutments included?Confirm the same restorative component level in the Vietnamese treatment plan.
Is a fixed provisional bridge included?Confirm the provisional design and whether immediate loading is conditional on adequate primary Implant stability.
What material is the definitive bridge?Compare resin with resin or ceramic with ceramic rather than comparing two headline “All-on-4” prices.
Is the bar cast or CAD/CAM manufactured? The Dr. Care final-prosthesis price changes according to bar design.
Are extractions and grafting included? These need to be identified separately if required after CBCT.
How many postoperative and prosthetic reviews are included?Compare the complete treatment pathway rather than only the surgical appointment.
What happens if the provisional bridge fractures or an Implant does not integrate?Compare the written warranty and contingency policy, not just the nominal warranty period.

The choice of definitive material is particularly important.

A resin-based full-arch restoration on a bar and a ceramic full-arch restoration on a CAD/CAM bar are not the same product simply because both are supported by four implants.

They differ in laboratory process, material properties, repairability, weight, wear behavior, esthetics and price.

Therefore, if your AUD 30,000 Sydney quotation includes a specific high-end definitive prosthesis while the Vietnamese number you saw online refers only to four Implant fixtures, the apparent price difference is exaggerated.

Conversely, once you compare the complete Implant component plus a comparable final restoration, there may still be a large cost difference. That remaining difference should not automatically be attributed to inferior titanium.

Dr. Care currently offers Implant systems that are also directly supported in the Australian dental market.

For example, Nobel Biocare Australia's current NobelActive information describes more than 15 years of clinical experience and reports a mean survival rate of 97.9% across 107 clinical studies cited by the manufacturer.

Straumann Australia currently supplies its Implant systems and professional restorative platform directly to Australian clinicians.

Neodent Australia provides Implant systems, original prosthetics, quality documentation, CAD/CAM libraries and professional support and identifies Neodent as part of the Straumann Group.

These facts do not mean that every Implant system will perform equally in every patient.

They demonstrate something narrower but important for your question: the lower Vietnamese treatment fee does not necessarily mean the clinic must be using an unknown low-cost Implant that would not be recognized in Australia.

The Implant brand is also only one determinant of quality.

A globally recognized Implant placed in the wrong three-dimensional position can still create a poor result.

A premium Implant cannot compensate for insufficient bone, an inaccurate final framework, excessive cantilever, poorly controlled occlusion or a bridge that cannot be cleaned effectively.

Conversely, a properly selected Implant system within a carefully planned surgical and restorative workflow may provide an excellent result without selecting the most expensive brand available.

This is why I would evaluate your upper jaw according to Dr. Care's standard clinical dental implant protocol before discussing which price tier is appropriate.

The first questions are whether your remaining upper teeth can be preserved, how much maxillary bone remains, where the sinus is located, where the final teeth need to be positioned and whether four implants can be distributed safely to support the planned bridge.

If you still have maintainable natural teeth, I would not recommend removing them simply because an All-on-4 package in Vietnam costs less than your Sydney quotation.

If your remaining dentition is genuinely terminal, then full-arch dental implants can be assessed appropriately.

For the upper jaw, CBCT planning is especially important because posterior maxillary bone loss and sinus anatomy can affect Implant distribution.

All-on-4 can sometimes use strategically tilted posterior implants to make use of available bone and reduce the need for sinus grafting in selected cases.

But I would not advertise this as “All-on-4 means no grafting.”

If the available bone is genuinely insufficient for safe, prosthetically appropriate Implant positions, grafting or another treatment strategy may still be required.

Those additional procedures can increase the final treatment cost.

Dr. Care does not currently publish one universal bone-grafting fee because the procedure depends on the actual defect and technique required.

If DCARER dynamic navigation is clinically indicated to assist the surgeon in controlling Implant position, angulation and depth relative to the digital plan, the current published additional charge is VND 5,000,000 per case.

Again, navigation should not be interpreted as a substitute for surgical experience or adequate bone.

The quality question should also include the provisional stage.

When conditions permit early fixed provisionalization, the Implant fixtures still need to achieve sufficient primary stability.

I would not attach a fixed provisional bridge simply because a package has been sold as “teeth in one day” if the intraoperative stability does not support that loading protocol.

The safer plan is to have an alternative provisional strategy available and allow biology to determine loading.

Another reason I recommend comparing total treatment rather than Implant price is that full-arch rehabilitation has two distinct prosthetic stages.

The first is the provisional restoration used while the implants integrate.

The second is the definitive bridge after the Implant–bone interface has stabilized.

At Dr. Care, the current full-arch pathway is divided into those two phases. The definitive stage includes repeat Implant records, verification, esthetic tooth trial, bar and tooth verification, final delivery and subsequent occlusal adjustment.

Those steps matter because a long-span restoration attached to four implants has to fit accurately.

For me, a low price would become concerning if it were achieved by removing necessary verification stages, using components that cannot be identified, providing no Implant passport, making the final bridge without adequate trial stages or having no plan for follow-up.

A lower price is much less concerning if the exact manufacturer, restorative components and laboratory materials are transparent and the clinical workflow remains complete.

A lower price would concern me if...A lower price alone would not concern me if...
The Implant manufacturer cannot be clearly identified. The exact manufacturer, model and restorative platform are documented.
The clinic cannot tell you what components are being used.Original or clearly specified prosthetic components are included in the written treatment plan.
The quote says “final teeth included” but does not name the material or bar.Resin versus ceramic and cast versus CAD/CAM bar are clearly stated.
There is no CBCT-based prosthetic plan.Implant positions are planned from the final restorative requirements and anatomical limitations.
Immediate fixed teeth are guaranteed regardless of Implant stability.Early loading is conditional on appropriate clinical stability and an alternative plan exists.
No implant passport, component information or baseline radiographs are provided. You receive complete records that can be used by an Australian implant dentist in the future.
The provider cannot explain follow-up or warranty conditions.Reviews, maintenance responsibilities and warranty exclusions are written clearly.

Because you live in Australia, international follow-up should also be part of your decision.

If you choose Straumann, Nobel Active or Neodent, those manufacturers currently have professional product support in Australia. That can be useful if a dentist in Sydney later needs to identify the Implant system or order the correct restorative component.

However, I would never promise that every Australian dentist will personally stock every driver, screw or multi-unit component.

Even within the same manufacturer there can be different restorative connections and product generations.

You should therefore leave Dr. Care with a complete Implant passport documenting the exact fixture, dimensions, position, multi-unit abutments and restorative components, together with baseline radiographs and your prosthetic records.

That documentation can matter more than simply remembering the brand name.

Travel costs also belong in your comparison.

The VND 139–223 million reference price is a clinical treatment cost for one All-on-4 arch. It does not mean flights between Sydney and Ho Chi Minh City, accommodation and future care performed by an Australian dentist are included.

For an overseas patient, the definitive restoration is normally performed after the Implant integration period, so the international plan may require a second trip to Vietnam.

You should include those expenses when comparing the actual financial difference with your AUD 30,000 Sydney quote.

Even after allowing for travel, there may still be a significant difference, but I would calculate it transparently rather than comparing AUD 30,000 with the lowest Implant-only advertisement.

For your case, James, my recommendation is to request an itemized copy of the Sydney treatment plan before deciding.

Ask for the exact Implant system, number of implants, provisional bridge, final bridge material, bar design, grafting allowance, sedation, follow-up schedule and warranty.

Then compare those items directly with the Dr. Care plan after your CBCT.

If your Sydney quote uses NobelActive and a CAD/CAM-supported ceramic bridge, for example, compare it against the same type of Implant and final restoration in Vietnam rather than against the least expensive Neodent plus resin option.

That gives you a meaningful comparison.

The lower Dr. Care price should therefore not be interpreted as evidence that the Implant fixtures are lower quality. The clinic currently offers several internationally established systems that are also professionally supported in Australia.

But price alone also cannot prove that two treatment plans are equivalent.

The quality of a full-arch result comes from the combination of diagnosis, surgeon and restorative planning, Implant system, component traceability, laboratory accuracy, prosthetic material, occlusal design, hygiene access and long-term maintenance.

I would evaluate all of those before deciding whether the savings justify traveling to Vietnam.

This consultation is general guidance only because I have not reviewed your Sydney quotation, CBCT, remaining upper teeth, bone volume, sinus anatomy or the exact prosthetic material included in the AUD 30,000 figure. Once those details are available, the two treatment plans can be compared on a genuinely like-for-like basis.
